LOOK UP

ABOUT US

OUR STORY began last fall when Vicki was looking for clip art representing a diverse population. She wanted it to encompass a full spectrum of people, representing different religions, varying abilities, a full range of ethnicities, different body shapes, sizes and skin tones. She found some limited examples, but nothing that encompassed the full human diversity she was seeking. A serendipitous meeting with Carly, a local artist, occurred in early fall 2019. Carly
immediately understood and embraced the project. Within a few days Carly created a few prototypes, which were exactly what Vicki had in mind. These original examples became our founding “folks” at Look Up!
THE PREMISE of our “folks” is that they represent many different human qualities that are visible as well as those that are not visible. Our project is based on the fact that we are all very complex, often having many different and sometimes changing qualities. We are all unique and we all deserve to be seen, heard, treated and represented equally and with full respect and dignity. We want you to be able to interpret who you think our folks represent. We all have our stories and now we need to share those stories and continue the conversations. Listening and learning and sharing…education is powerful.
Look up, look around, and celebrate our differences!
SHARING OUR PROJECT has begun by creating various apparel and stickers for our “folks” to be featured on. Other items and designs will be added as we grow, please check back periodically.
FOR FUN try this exercise, look at one of our folks and use six words to describe them. Here are some examples: kind, funny, daughter, loves animals, mathematician, scientist. Who have you picked? Why?
SHARE your experience with us! We would love to feature photos of you in our apparel as well as stories about what Look Up means to you, on our website and/or social platforms.
TO SUPPORT our mission, twice a year we will donate a portion of each sale to various non-profit organizations working to advocate for people and groups whose appearances and identities are marginalized. We encourage you to check our website for the current organization we’ve chosen to support.
Look Up, celebrate our differences!
